What can I say? I’m a lover…. of food that is. I love to mix spices, cook, and especially to EAT. I spend lots of time reading recipes and ingredient lists and trying new things in the kitchen. My ultimate desire: to have a full fridge and a well-stocked wine cellar.
During my days, I’m a practicing Naturopath out of Waterloo Ontario. I work alongside an amazing team at Urban Wellness Studios where I see a wide range of individuals. My focus and passions are women’s hormonal health, pre- and post-natal care, and stress management. Check us out at http://www.urbanwellnessstudio.ca/.
Well, I’ve always been a lover of food. As a child I spent my summers running around in the dirt at my parent’s farm, washing veggies off under the hose and chomping on them raw. But as I grew to be a teenager I watched as food took a new role. It wasn’t about enjoying the simple pleasure of food; it was more about how that food made you look. Then as the years progressed and I attended the University of Guelph for Food Science, the focus was on how can we change our food to satisfy a particular ‘mouth-feel’, or act as a ‘binder’, or condense so we can pump it through a particular pipe at a particular speed….. and that’s when I started realizing that something is seriously wrong with our food.
Still the years passed and I attended the Candian College of Naturopathic Medicine (CCNM). At CCNM, I learned the connection between our food and how it makes us feel. How the B vitamins in our dark leafy greens play a role in the biochemistry of making energy for every single cell in the body (look out – nerd alert). How a simple supplement can have such a positive impact on someone’s wellbeing.
I love being an ND cause I get to put all these pieces together. In my practice I see first-hand how our access to food/social wellbeing/knowledge of processed products/physical wellbeing/finances/etc all impact what we eat for dinner.
Ultimately I want to help people bring back the simple pleasure of food – cause who doesn’t love eating? So for The Love of Green, start mixin’ and make some delicious foods!
